DO NOTHING ... TO the school

Are you a teacher and would like to learn more about practicing meditation in schools? Congratulations on your curiosity and open-mindedness!

Today, the National Education system, which is undoubtedly driving major advances in our society, is still somewhat hesitant about integrating meditation into the classroom.

This hesitation is understandable given the French school system's commitment to secularism, considering the Buddhist origins of meditation. However, to believe that meditation today belongs solely to the spiritual or religious sphere is a persistent misconception. For several decades now, meditation has been taught and practiced in a secular context for well-being purposes, notably in hospitals, businesses, and even within political and governmental circles. Since 2018, the National Assembly has regularly organized introductory mindfulness meditation sessions for its members of parliament.

Meditation should rightfully have its place in schools and for all ages, starting in preschool. Fortunately, studies are already underway, notably in Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and North America. All of them demonstrate the numerous benefits of meditation practice for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Through the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), I train French-speaking teachers from around the world in meditation and its application in the classroom. I also offer my services, free of charge, upon request, either in person or via videoconference, to schools to present the "Doing Nothing" approach.

Apparently, some people deliberately choose to do nothing... It's called "meditation." But is it possible to do absolutely NOTHING? And what does doing nothing even mean? What happens in our bodies when we do nothing?

In its simplicity, in the text, in the illustrations, and even in its very low price, " Doing Nothing" is an authentic introductory manual to Zen meditation for children... and for the adults they have to take care of.

Suitable for ages 5 and up.
